Open day at new Faringdon quarry

Grundon Sand & Gravel marked the start of operations at its new Faringdon Quarry with an event for local builders, landscapers and other trades people on Friday, September 11.

The Open Day and BBQ was designed to show off the extensive range of aggregate and landscaping materials available, as well as to publicise the quarry’s new access road.

The site is next door to the now exhausted Wicklesham Quarry, which has been an active quarry since the 1950s, with Grundon occupying the site since the mid-1980s.

Andrew Short, Estates Director, said: “We’re very pleased that by opening the new quarry we have been able to secure jobs and support the local economy through our continued work with local hauliers and contractors.

“To help celebrate the move, we wanted to open our doors and invite our customers to see the extensive range of materials on offer, including aggregates and specialist decorative products as well as landscaping soils.”

In addition, Faringdon Quarry will continue to supply Grundon’s Coxwell gravel, which is highly sought-after by architects and landscape designers for its unique visual qualities and self-binding properties. This specialist gravel is extremely durable and is used in many of the London parks and within the grounds of several Oxford colleges.

Faringdon Quarry, like all others within the group, operates an open door policy which means that as well as selling to the trade, it welcomes the public who can buy direct from the quarry weighbridge office.

The company operates a number of quarries across southern England and is one of the region’s leading suppliers of sands and aggregates to the building, construction, landscaping, decorative and leisure markets.
