Grundon supports a new sandpit for local primary school

Pupils at St Birinus C of E Primary School, in Dorchester, Oxfordshire, are now enjoying a new sandpit, thanks to support from local companies Grundon Sand & Gravel and MKM Building Supplies.

By donating the sandpit and supplying the sand – together worth around £300 – the two businesses are helping enhance the school’s outdoor learning space and creating a fun new area for children to learn and play.

The children were thrilled with their new sandpit, with a few commenting:

“This is the best day ever!”

“This is so exciting, we can now use our sandpit every day!”

“I can’t wait to play in the sand; it’s going to be so fun.”

Teachers also highlighted the wider benefits of the new addition, explaining that sandpits play an important role in early years learning, helping to encourage exploration, creativity and social interaction.

Chris Cowper, Sales Manager at Grundon Sand & Gravel said “We’re delighted to support the school and help create something the children can enjoy everyday.”

Following the donation of the sandpit from Grundon, Chris reached out to MKM Building Supplies in Wallingford who generously agreed to contribute to the donation project by transporting two bags of sand from their depot to the school and covering half the cost, with Grundon funding the remainder.

Stephen Busby at MKM Building Supplies, added: “We’re really pleased to support this project and work alongside Grundon to help create a space the children can use for their development. It’s great to be involved in something that benefits the local community in which both companies operate within.”

To recognise the support of both local businesses, the school installed a plaque on the fence behind the sandpit.

Once the sand was delivered, Annie Sessions, Marketing Manager at Grundon, Chris Cowper and Dean Evans, HGV Driver at MKM Building Supplies, assisted children from reception and year 1 classes to transfer the sand by wheelbarrow and buckets to the outdoor learning area.
