Carbon8 Aggregates, in which Grundon has a 50% stake, was among the winners in this year’s National Recycling Awards.
The company won the Best Recycled Product category for their lightweight carbon negative aggregate, C8Agg. The aggregate is manufactured using Carbon8’s Accelerated Carbonation Technology, at the first plant in the world to use carbon dioxide to treat Air Pollution Control (APC) residues from Energy from Waste plants.
The plant is co-located with a major block making company – Lignacite Ltd, who are using C8Agg to manufacture ‘Carbon Buster’, the world’s first truly carbon negative concrete block.
Entrants to this category were required to prove that their products are manufactured with a majority of their constituent materials taken from recycled sources; to provide evidence of the types of materials used and the history of those materials, and to explain the process of manufacture and the waste produced from that process.
These annual awards continue to reward and support the efforts of local authorities and councils, as well as the construction and retail sectors.
The National Recycling Awards 2013 were organised by MRW magazine, part of EMAP. Robin Latchem, Editor of MRW who opened proceedings for the presentation evening said:
“… We had a record number of entries and again the bar has been set very high by those on the short list and, of course, those who will take to the stage as winners. It is that quality that keeps our valued judges coming back year after year…”
